Joan Hodgkiss I trained at Bolton College of Art, Stourbridge College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. My work includes silk screen, lithographs, etchings with aquatint and watercolours. Initially working as a painter I later moved towards printmaking and now work solely in etching. I have a studio at my home in Yoxford, in the English County of Suffolk. I occasionally hold print workshops and participate in Open Studio events. My etchings have been exhibited in Britain, Europe and the U.S.A. and are on sale in galleries in London, throughout East Anglia and now online. My work is largely derived from the imagery of coastal landscapes, still life and natural history. Some work has been centred upon Roman artefacts and in these etchings I have experimented with the use of gold leaf. I frequently use colour in my etchings to give a subdued watercolour effect. The East Anglian coast's rather bleak and open quality particularly appeals to me and, in my work, I try to capture both the pleasure that it gives and the memories it leaves one with. |
